Earning the bucks these days takes hard graft. Functioning from seven to 11, staring at a monitor, stressing the brain and screwing your eyes, all the time striving to enter the upper echelons of the company hierarchy.
While investing some of your well-earned bonus in an overseas property in Dubai or Croatia is one option, it’s certainly not the only option. Surely you deserve to spend some of your cash on something you can enjoy right now, not in 20 years’ time. On the one hand, a property investment that will earn you a respecting nod from your old man. On the other, a sports car that would make Pussy Galore purr. I suppose it’s a question of priorities – security or stimulation.
When choosing the ultimate boys’ toy, consider this: Is it fast? Does it look cool? Can you fit your golf clubs in the boot? The Honda S2000 ticks every box, with a premium on speed and beauty. Honda has used its racing heritage to produce a high-revving, 240-horsepower DOHC VTEC engine that reaches 62mph in just 6.2 seconds and, road permitting, goes all the way to 150mph. A six-speed, close-ratio gearbox made of lightweight components completes the true sports car experience.
And as well as all that petrol-head stuff you’ve also got pure, sexy design detail. The big red start button on the dashboard that fires up the engine, the small 360mm-diameter steering wheel built for response, the compacted digital instrument panel which gives instant and unobstructed driver information and the electric roof that opens and closes faster than Paul Casey recruits caddies. Although the car has a small frame of 4,135mm in length and 1,750mm in width, the boot has a capacity of 143 litres which means it can accommodate two sets of golf clubs.
Get yourself one of these beauties and small children will point and stare, with a “when I grow up, I want to be like him” look in their eyes. Who needs Croatia when you can have a convertible?
